Current read & random thoughts

I'm currently reading this 722-page behemoth...

I'm liking the hero, the story and the author's writing style so far (page 118). What I'm not crazy about is how the story meanders. Too many details, too many sidetracks - my attention is beginning to wander*. If you're curious, you can find out more about this book here at Amazon.

For those of you who don't already know, you can peek at my bookshelf, reading progress and book-related stuff here at Good Reads. And if you're there as well, let's connect as friends. ;)

* As the result of the wandering mind, I feel the crafting mojo starting to take over. ;)

It's on my list of books to read. But I don't have a lot of free time at the moment, at least not as much time as I would need to finish this book reasonable fast. When I take too long to read a book, it dilutes the reading experience for me somehow. *shrug*

I hope you can stay with the book. But then again, I love to see what you come up with when you're in a creative mood, too. :)

That's a BIG book. The reasons you've listed are the same reason I can't get into the Gablon books. I just. Can't.
Glad you're reading, but also glad you're getting crafty again! *G*

Hope you're doing well!

Taja: I think you should definitely read this one. I like the prose and the lead character a lot and the story's interesting BUT the amount of details are rather distracting. I want to know what happens next NOW, not 10 pages later! Needless to say, the pacing is slow.

I've stopped reading it at the moment. I found that I needed a quick read and I turned to the good ol' romance pile. :D I finished Lisa Kleypas' Seduce Me At Sunrise in less than 4 hours! Now THAT was a satisfyingly quick read. :)

Brandy: I didn't dare to attempt those Jamie-and-Claire behemoths either! :D I admit I was curious about them, but the size of those books scare me. :)

You have to really like details, in my opinion, to read the Jamie books. I tried about ten years ago, and should probably try again. Then again there are lots of other lovely books out there..... *G*

I need to be in a special mood to read those detail-laden books. :) Sometimes I need quick reads; sometimes I have all the patience in the world to slowly savour every word and sentence. :) And you're right - there are LOTS of lovely books out there just waiting to be discovered. :)

Brandy: Sorry for the silence! I haven't had much time to go on the 'net lately but I should be back to regular browsing in a few days. Thanks for thinking of me! No, I haven't been reading but crocheting like mad. :D

Grace: Totally understandable when busyness strikes. Clearing a store room is no small task! Congrats on the new maid. :)
